AVIATION IN THE SACRAMENTO COMMUNITY

Highway and Hedges Garden is proud to support the George S. "SPANKY' Roberts, Sacramento Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc.

Aviation Yesterday and Today

Black aviation programs are important because they provided opportunities for African Americans to participate in aviation and overcome obstacles based on the color of their skin. The clubs created made it possible for African Americans to participate in aviation.

Today that legacy continues with supporting the chapter in its endeavors and support of our youth will be a driving force to the success of aviaton.

Just over two and a half per cent of aircraft pilots and flight engineers are African American, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Fewer than seven percent are Hispanic or Latino and a little more than four per cent are Asian.

To change starts with getting children, teens and young adults of color involved in the aviation industry to remove any existing barriers to African Americans working as commercial airline pilots by developing and implementing programs which actively recruit, train, promote and retain African American pilots.

If there is an interest in aviation, please contact the GEORGE S. "SPANKY" ROBERTS CHAPTER:
